Nope. The opposite is in fact true. The new ones have no indication that they play SVCD or VCD on the unit, but they nonetheless play them perfectly right out of the box. The older ones say that they can play VCD, but you have to hack it to play SVCD.

This is a really hot deal, I'd highly recommend this player above any comprable Apex model. It doesn't feel as cheap, and there were a few SVCDs I tried on the Apex that wouldn't play correctly. The Mintek plays everything.

I disagree. Sure, it's an acronym, but why was PATRIOT chosen over any other random jumble of letters? There has to be a reason. How about Patriot Missles? No cribbing :)! The idea is to get a definition of patriot in common usage, NOT any static definition. The lexicon moves faster than any...

I just installed a stick from the Fremont Fry's. No problems with it so far, I've never had any problems with Kingston's SD-RAM either.
