I had a Pentium III 800 Mhz. And eventually came the time when I really wanted an Athlon 64 FX baddly but couldn't afford it. If you asked me a few years ago I would have picked the Athlon 64 but now I would say the Core 2 Conroe is my absolute favourite. It's my favourite because of it's...
 Seriously?
Thoughts? Exactly what you said - Expensive. Fast. Low Capacity.
Experience? Varies from person to person and your type of workload. If all you do is launch firefox and type your documents. Then hard to justify the cost. This will become yet another question with as many answers...
LOL. I have to agree with this one as well. Bulldozer is nothing like the failure of Pentium 4
I have a Pentium 4 Prescott running right now as a heater at 3.06 Ghz with HT Enabled. Winrar Bench reports 280 K/sec (multithreading off)
In contrast I also have a ULV Core 2 running in a laptop @...
I was just looking for someone to say this
And this:
Now back to seriousness. Honestly, I don't need any help with any computers. Like I said I just wanted to see what you guys could come up with. BUT, I am working on an assembler for an LC-3 Harvard Processor. The design phase is complete...
More people are making a move to SSD due to recent climb in mechanical disk. That's why prices are coming down - but why is that a surprise ? Like with any technology when it matures and widely gets adapted this happens and SSDs are no exception.
lol. Ok calm down everyone. I just wanted to see what you fools out there with your i7 XX could come up with. but I was impressed that someone did catch this:
Some impressive quotes:
You caught me there. :D
ROFL. This is 100% true though.
Someone was actually thinking. But the person who...
Prescott indeed extended pipelines further but that's also part of the story. ALL Pentium 4 still employed a write-through cache policy which is known to be a poor algorithm. As I recall my Athlon XP @ 1.8 Ghz was equivalent or sometimes faster than a Pentium 4 NORTHWOOD @ 2.4 Ghz. So from pure...
Intel wanted to keep on extending pipelines to reach higher frequency (heck this was mentioned in one of anandtech's articles). Intel made that tradeoff knowingly only to realize the tradeoff they made was not in the right area which is WHY they couldn't reach the goal they set out for...
-1: Pentium 4
So do I but memories don't serve a scientific measure. It is known to be the least efficient cpu intel has ever made.
Nah not quite. Keep in mind AMD designed the bulldozer to take advantage of multi-threaded apps. Pentium 4 remains as all time worst cpu ever made in the world...
Most expensive intel cpu at newegg is Intel Xeon E5-2690 Sandy Bridge-EP 2.9GHz.
Actually that will be ultra low end in single threaded apps. Each core is rated at 2.0 ghz (top 1).
Looking for a new rig which will be used for... well everything really. No cap on cost. Just looking for the ultra super high end top rig with LOTS of cpu power, LOTS of GPU power and LOTS of fast storage. Recommendations?
