Fire Question

well, it still seems to work. I dont know if Id trust the socket that caused the smoke show. is memory in that socket now? grab memtest86 and run it for a few hours, see what it come up with.

looking for a good, but cheap microphone

in that price range there probably isnt any real difference, they all will be equally poor. about the only difference may be directional vs non directional. what will it be used for?

they also dont specify if all channels are driven, those number may be with just that channel with the others off. also no distortion specs.. "real" system specs are all chennels driven, like xxx watts RMS per channel, all channels driven, 20-20,000 hz, .1% THD. omit any of that and...

Concerned with static on carpet

proper grounding it the best. there are also anti static sprays you can spray on your carpet but as ive never used them I cant comment on how well they work.

old 486 Hippo VL+

what socket number is it? if its 3 then the amd 5x86 133 would be ideal, runs at 133 with a 33 mhz bus, 160 with a 40 mhz bus. I had one that ran at 160 flawlessly. needs a voltage adapter for other sockets.

not sure what the z-5500 sats impedance is but if its lower that 8 ohms (theyre probably 4 or 5) then the boston sats wont harm the system but it will be unbalanced and colored. if the z-5500 impedance is greater than 8 ohms then dont try it, it will stress the logitechs amps, increasing...

This is for the old school Super7 users

pretty sure justly is right the K6+ cache has no effect on the mobos cachable ram size. some mobos could add tag ram to the cache and allow more ram to be cached, maybe you can steal some cache chips from one mobo and use it as tag ram on another?

Memory Addresses!

not 100% sure on this, but here goes: back in the IBM AT (80286) days cmos chips were the original low power chip that could use a battery to retain data, but it was slow compared to TTL (power hungry) chips.. so the cmos chips were only used for the bios data that was only needed once at boot...
