I am building another computer and am looking for a mid-tower ATX case that will give me sufficient room to work in and have at least a few of the following cavaets:
1) Thumbscrews
2) Removable cages (HD, PS, etc.)
3) Filtered intakes
4) Ample room inside
5) Aluminum construction
I use a...
I realize that the thinking among Anandtech readers is that the lower the price the worse the motherboard. But let's all try to get over our elitesism for just a minute. If you're as tired as I am about being told to wait for the NForce4 board then take a look at the current offerings from Epox...
My WD 120GB ATA-100 drive just died on me. I'd been trying to nurse it back to health all weekend but now I'm throwing in the towel. I need a new hd. I'm running AMD with a brand new Epox-9NDA3J (Ultra ATA-133 and SATA support)
What should I run out and buy right now?
Ok, thanks for the advice guys.
Here's the new build:
Parts:
Athlon 64 3000+ .............. $153
EPoX EP-9NDA3J ............... $ 99
Mushkin 512MB DDR PC-3200 .... $ 67
Leadtek 6600GT ............... $219
I really don't have the cash to splurge for 2 sticks of 512 right now...
I haven't heard them, that's the problem. I don't know anyone with them.
I really want to keep this system quiet and I am afraid that a year from now the ball-bearings on the fans will start to go and it will get loud!
Yea, heard it somewhere - stuck with me
But as for the dB, I mean - I have panaflos for all my fans - my current box uses an Alpha heatsink w/ a stock 80mm which is loud.
I don't want this thing to be a vacuum cleaner.
Plus I'm getting an unshrouded Leadtek vid card so that it is quiet as...
I'm upgrading to an new Epox socket 939 board and need new ram
But how do I run dual-channel mem?
The only reason that I ask is that I am looking at Geil value mem and noticed one stick was normal and one was dual-channel. Do you have to have the dual-channel to run in dual-channel, and if...
If XFX is such crap then why does Anandtech suggest it as the vid card of choice in all their gaming sys. buyer guides?!?
I hate how rumormill these forums can get.
I've been out of it for a while so I don't quite get dual-channel RAM. From what I think I understand I would want to get 2 sticks of 256 and run them together and this would use the dual-channel?
Edit: When you say the current RAM won't cut it, what do you mean?
Yea I already looked at that heatsink, newegg is out of stock on the thermalright xp90 right now. :(
What RAM would you recommend ... and if I want 512MB should I get 1 stick or two?
BTW: About how much of a performance hit are we talking about? (I really don't have the ca$h for RAM right now)
I'm about to upgrade my 2yr old computer.
This is my current rig: (An old AthlonXP system)

When I set out on this mission to upgrade my computer my only goal was to get my old computer to play new games like HL2 and Doom3. Although I...
