Which Router....Linksys or SMC?

I have used and set up several brands. Go with the SMC Barricade 7004ABR. You get a print server and reliability. Had a problem with one SMC I set up for a client. Tech support was awesome, helped me update the firmware ... bingo, ready to roll in 15 minutes. Go with SMC!

Win 2K setup won't copy "basicwk.inf"

Doing a clean install on IWill KK266, Tbird 900, 512Mb PC133 CAS2, Western Digital 40GB (main part. 25Gb - balance@13GB). All new stuff, flashed new BIOS kk0416.bin (no problems). Formatted my partitions and loading using FAT32, stand alone no security needed and using ATI 64Mb Radeon VIVO. Set...

AMD all the way! Price and Performance has it all over Intel. MSI board seems like the "rock".

256MB ram 1 stick or 2 128MB sticks?!

A lot of memory sellers of 256Mb chips say "not compatible with HP". I would go 2 x 128.

Is light-weighted Laptop more easily freeze?

"More easily frozen?" ... Only if left outside :) In this case size doesn't matter! Vaio is a good laptop line. Because of the thinner body they are more readily cracked (as in oops what did I sit on?)or (it doesn't fly across the room like my frisbee). The only complaint I have heard...

What is your favorite Full Tower Case (under or around $100)

Fave's got to be the SuperPower line up. I have the Landmark KS299 mid Tower, quiet-2fans-huge interior-looks cool.The construction is super heavy duty top of the line! They have the PolarisII KS198 full tower, great specs ... 4 fans built in! And on Pricewatch ... less than $100. SuperPower...

Do you recommand to keep the HDD cool? Or don't even bother?

2 HD shouldn't usually present a problem with good case cooling,but 7200rpm do run hot.Some 3½" cages have open brackets on the bottom. If not, easy to do with 4 small metal strips and nuts\bolts. The area underneath is usually free space anyway! Just a thought :)

Which HD: Maxtor 40 gig (7200) or Quantum 40 gig (7200)

Maxtor has gotten some great reviews and improved their image in the last 2 years. But ... Western Digital has a 3yr Warranty and a great RMA dept. if needed. As often as I whack my HD,best value for my buck!

Russ is right, WD 3yr Warranty. I have used several times for RMA. They are awesome! Fast, courteous, no problems. WD RMA
