Started booting Windows, then the boot menu came up. I took a risk and went with "Normal Mode." WinXP CheckDisk came up and recovered a whole ton of files. Something like "Recovering orphaned file <C:\Documents & Settings\...> in file 9413"
Basically everything in My Documents for my main...
I just ran a Quick Test and Extended Test using Western Digital's Lifeguard Diagnostics. Both tests reported zero errors.
The C:\ drive seems more responsive (no delay) when viewing contents in Konqueror. The tests said they didn't change anything.
Let me try booting Windows now.
That annoys me too. I just have it set to auto-notify, then I manually update when I have time. That way I'm prepared to reboot if necessary. I'm on broadband, and most updates are pretty small anyway.
Hi, this problem just occurred several hours ago. Luckily I did a fresh install of WinXP Pro exactly one month ago so I won't lose too much stuff if worse comes to worse. Also, luckily I burnt a Knoppix LiveCD (complete Linux n00b here) a couple weeks ago...that's what I'm on now.
Info you...
Wow, and just like that, I figured out the problem. It's Winamp (version 5.03c). I played the same MP3 in Windows Media Player 10 and the hard drive LED came on in the same place but the pops didn't happen. I'll try a newer version of Winamp since I'm not a big fan of WMP.
Yeah, they played normally up until about a year ago. So I guess for the first two years of its life, they played fine. Nothing changed in my usage of this PC...the problem just started out of nowhere.
Some specs:
CPU: P4 Northwood @ 2.0A GHz (400MHz FSB)
RAM: 1GB Samsung ECC PC800...
I have a custom built PC running XP Pro. The MP3s are on a Western Digital 1200BB hard drive. I've had it for three years but haven't had any problems with it.
The popping sounds occur simultaneously with the HD LED light going on. I know the MP3s aren't corrupt, since I can rewind and...
OK, I'm going to assume that all you have is 1 hard drive and 1 DVD-RW drive.
Ideally, you would have them on separate channels, since you'll mostly be burning from hard drive to DVD-RW drive. By this I mean put the hard drive on IDE1 Master and the DVD-RW drive on IDE2 Master. You would...
I updated the image with more screenshots.
Basically, here's my setup:
Hard Drive 1:
C: (Windows and apps) <--I reformatted this a few days ago.
D: (My Data)
Hard Drive 2:
E: (My Data)
I only have one user account on my PC. Just Administrator, which is under my name. "Booze" is the name of...
I just reinstalled XP Pro over the weekend. I've been setting up some basic sharing on the home network and ran across a weird group or username:
"S-1-5-21-1060284298-842925246-839522115-1003" or something. I'm not sure who or what it belongs to, but I don't want my system's security...
I'm a day late and a dollar short. I just reinstalled WinXP Pro over the weekend. (Reformatted the C:\ partition and the encrypted stuff is on the D:\ partition). I lucked out cuz the data isn't all that important, but in the future:
Where are the keys stored? What kind of files are they...
I have recently purchased a new SOYO Dragon KT600 plus with a AMD Athlon XP 2800 processor. When I use one power supply, it does not turn on at all. It will turn on with a second power supply I have, but only for a few seconds before shutting down. I was wondering if it was jumper settings...
