Opinions on new build

The H50 is great. Nice and quiet, very easy to mount, and does a solid job. Going 12GB will cost you about $100 more than 8GB. If you use that much memory then to me it would be worth it, also just saying "Yeah I got 12gigs of ram" is just pretty cool. If you want 12GB, definitely go with the...

Need Help Deciding on CPU/MB Combo

You probably can't go wrong with either. I've got an i7-920 at 4ghz and just got a 555BE\785 combo I'm messing around with and out of the box I'd say you have much fewer issues getting what you want out of the i5 than the AMD.

Which DDR3 with Asus P6x58D...

Using Corsair Dominator 1600 C7 and it runs spec on mine just fine.

Asus p6x58D Premium arrived this morning, post questions here.

At 199x20, memory at 1600 but just 9-9-9-24 for right now. Vcore - 1.26 PLL - 1.80 QPI - 1.268 IOH - 1.18 DRAM - 1.64 Temp maxes around 73, idles around 45. LinX stable getting 58 GFlops so its a good OC.

They are actually SATA III ports, which is 6 Gbps. I built my new system last night with this board. So far its rock solid. The first system build I've had in a few years where I had really zero issues pop up. I tried using my Kingston 40GB SSD on one of the SATA3 ports but it was not...

Decent Gaming Lapstop around $1500 or less

I've seen the Toshiba X205's going for $1600 buyouts on ebay. Thats pretty nice deal for that lappy. Can customize some nice lappys at Xotic-PC.

First time buyer needs advice!

$3k, ouch... I see about $2k worth of parts there. The 3 year warranty and XPS support is costing you the extra $1k. If your not comfortable with building and replacing components yourself then its probably worth it. As for HD's... its really nice if could get a 150gb raptor 10k rpm for your...

Which one is better??

Everyone is entitled to their favorites. Just so you know, I can dig up thousands of forum complaints all over the net specifically aimed at HP. I can do it for Dell, Gateway, etc. These companies sell MILLIONS of computers. I would even say that 75% or more of those complaints are PEBCAC issues...

Which one is better??

No brainer? I don't see that heh. I'd get the 8600M GT. First person was right, those video cards don't have enough bandwidth to seriously use 512 megs of ram. Throwing more ram at a crappy video card doesn't make it a great video card.

Headset/mic recommendations

I've had the GameComPro1 for about a year now and its the best headset I've ever had. I've gone through about 7 or 8 different ones before. Main problems always being uncomfortable for long gaming sessions. These things are really comfortable. USB with their own dsp and a noice cancelling mic...

Would this be a significant upgrade?

I don't know why everyone is making it so difficult. Yes, its a very nice performance boost. A 1950 will still do a solid job. I'd maybe look at getting a P5W DH or crossfire mobo so you have the option since crossfire is easy to do with 1950 pros. Also as mentioned get DDR2, any decent DDR2-800...

About to purchace new Rig.

The S3 still OC's pretty much as well as the DS3. It has some liquid Caps instead of solid. But this is mainly only an issue that they might leak after a long period of time, like years. Liquid caps are much better these days than they were back on some of the older Abit boards that really gave...
