Virtual COM ports for usb to rs232 cable?

Thanks FlyingPenguin.. If it defaults to COM1 I'm probably fine. It sounds like the cable you use has some config software? I was looking at the "recommended" (from the EQ company..) cable which comes with an app to setup a 'virtual' COM port. But that one was a bitch to aquire from the UK...

Virtual COM ports for usb to rs232 cable?

I need to control an external device with a pc usb port on WinXP Pro. I'm not actually in the same physical space with the pc or the device yet, so I am trying to cover all bases in advance.. If I get a usb to 9pin RS232 cable the external device will be looking for the pc on a COM port...

Asus P4C800-E bios reports WD Raptor sata150 as UDMA Mode 5 (ata100!)!?

Asus P4C800-E bios reports WD Raptor sata150 as UDMA Mode 5 (ata100!)!?

:confused: I have flashed the bios to 1016 (latest from Asus website..) before installing any OS (WinXP SP1, all updates..) I was tipped-off by Sandra reporting low in the file system area, sure enough, bios only offers up to udma mode 5 (ata100). Mode 7 is sata150, mode 6 is ata133, so what...

My SATA on XP install problem (I've read the many posts..)

OK... Here's the scoop (about 7 hours of troubleshooting later...) After swapping-out the sata cable (power and signal) with known-good items, and trying different sata ports on the mobo (Asus P4C800-ED), I tried to narrow it down further. I tried just the WD 36GB Raptor sata drive by itself...

My SATA on XP install problem (I've read the many posts..)

Disable TV out on Geforce 3 Ti200?

I also need to disable TV Out on my GF4 4600... One of the newer copy-protection schemes on dvds ("Road to Perdition" is where I first saw this reaction..) will not let the dvd play if TV Out is enabled - it freezes the video and gives an error message. Having vga enabled does NOT turn off TV...

VIDEO ISSUE - Vertical lines "tearing" in MOHAA?

I've been trying to figure this one out for awhile now.. It seems like such a basic video problem. In Medal of Honor (patched to current..) there is a distinct disjointedness in the vertically- lined graphics (things like walls, doors, light poles, etc..) It's a fairly simple visual phenom, but...

Where to shop for a LAPTOP?
