Worth it to upgrade from X3-720 to X4 955?

the answer depends on how close you are to a fry's or microcenter, but I'd lean towards not upgrading just yet.

seems a bit much to pay when you can get a GTX 465 and unlock it into a 470.

Thanks for everyone's input. After mulling it over, I was about to get a third stick of 2gb ddr2 to replace one of the 1gb sticks I have. it seemed the cheapest route and there were lots of basic sticks on ebay for $30. Just as I was about to buy a basic stick, I realized I didn't even think...

need suggestions on new budget PC

Is there any way to get the phenom with a ddr3 board? If so, that's the way to go assuming you can keep the price down. DO you have a fry's nearby? they currently have a sale on the phenom w/ ddr3 mobo for $89. Those phenoms have a good success rate of unlocking the 2 other cores, and they OC...

I just upgraded my machine to a Phenom running 32bit win 7. it is using 2x1gb ddr2. I have another motherboard that takes ddr3 memory but didn't install it since I don't have ddr3. I would like to install more memory in order to see a performance improvement. 1x2gb ddr2 stick would cost me...

what about the Phenom II X2 555 black edition? that cpu plus ddr2 mobo is $99 at microcenter, same cpu with ddr3 mobo is $99 - $10 rebate @ fry's. Chances of unlocking the extra cores is pretty good, I had success on 3 different occasions. YMMV but if it works you're getting close to i5...

wow, all these replies and no one addresses the up and coming star of the democrat party, alan grayson? I guess that's good representation of how much he matters, and I'd be inclined to agree.
