Running a legacy Intel CPU at clock speeds lower than spec.

First of all, if you're going to throw it away, I'll buy the board from you, as I collect retro stuff. Second, the reason there may be a hard limit of 550Mhz is because 550Mhz slot-2 Xeons were 250nm (Katmai based). Anything newer are 180nm (Coppermine based) cores. So there may be a VRM...

Waiting for AIB Vega cards (w/Custom Coolers)? Well...be prepared to keep on waiting.

Is it the $499 or $399 MSRP we're talking about? Same here. Could've had Sapphire Fry's for as low as $220. Undervolt it, and you are within 10% of GTX 1070.

Recommend a SOHO KVM?

I have a mini-lab of older equipment and a newer file server, and I'm tired of moving my mouse/keyboard/VGA cables around. So any recommendations for a 4 port KVM? Thinking about buying used off eBay due to savings. Would like the following features: 1. Dongles for PS2 and USB Mouse/Keyboard...

AMD Vega (FE and RX) Benchmarks [Updated Aug 10 - RX Vega 64 Unboxing]

If we look purely at density and area calculations, 14nm Fiji would be around 300-350 mm^2. Improve clock speed by a conservative 30% and give it 8GB HMB2, and that should compete against the GTX 1080. What do you think Pascal is compared to Maxwell? Except a few minor tweaks, they're the same...

Yet another post regarding older vs newer CPUs

IMO, Windows 7 didn't feel much faster than Windows XP. It doesn't really offer any significant advantages that a well kept Windows XP system had (Windows 98/ME to XP, OTOH.... wow that was a huge difference). I think Windows 7 to Windows 10 was a far bigger leap in terms of snappiness and...

And Eth had a low of $211 in the last 24 hours. If this bubble bursts similar to how bitcoin bubbles have burst in the past, it should dip to around $40.

Best GPU for Dell XPS 9100 with 990X CPU and 24GB RAM?

You can try eBay or the FS/T forum here (look for a reputable seller). Right now, the best bet would be a Maxwell, as they comparatively suck at mining but good for gaming. E.g. GTX 970/980. But all VR capable GPU's are inflated price now due to the mining craze. Long term best bet is to wait...

How long do you think it will take for DDR4 ECC RDIMMs to achieve surplus pricing?

Depends on speed grade. RDDR4-2133 is already pretty cheap. RDDR4-2666 is barely even out and really f'ing expensive.

I don't know how the other RX 480's do it, but I'm at 1300/2000 core/mem on a MSI RX 480 4GB and only get about 22.5 MH/s. Which apparently from above, is only on par with a GTX 1060 (makes you wonder why Radeon's are going for so much more). Also, anyone notice the huge Litecoin price spike...

How do you even fit more than 2 high powered mining systems in a single room? At least most rooms in the US are using 15A breakers. So 15A * 120V = 1800W.

Because they were literally 8GB cards with 2000 Mhz rated memory. IIRC, RX 480 4GB uses cheaper memory as default speed is only 1750 MHz.

So is core clock mostly irrelevant for Eth mining? Seems like overclocking memory is way better in terms of hash rate. Unfortunately I bought 4GB RX 480's, so the memory caps around 2050 or so.

corsair lack of warranty and roadblocks

Only time I dealt with Corsair warranty was 2-3 years ago. My 750HX (PSU) would slightly whine only if all 4 PCI-e power were used. The CSR said he would send a replacement and temp charge my card or I could just wait until they got it. Thought about it for awhile, figured it wasn't worth my...
