    Ground-up build, $1500 budget...set go! :)

Oh really...even for home use? I'm not sure what is considered a large business, mine is ~50 employees. Not that any of that is relevant LOL.

I see. I've seen a couple people around with them, looks like it beats going back and forth between windows if you have a couple you use a lot. Only flaw I see is that it will look funny submitting my claim for dual monitors... I already have a copy of MS Office, and I can use Open Office...

    Ground-up build, $1500 budget...set go! :)

Oh OK good...I was getting kind of confused about it...glad you see where I'm coming from now. I don't have the room or need for triple monitors, and I really don't know if I have the room for duals, I need to measure. I've never had dual set up. What would I really do with them that I can't...

Pentium MMX 200 - Any use?

Haha, I still have a functioning 200MMX setup. Just need a new case for it.

Well, I can see where you are coming from, and normally I would agree with you...however, I don't find it silly nor stupid in my particular situation. First computer I went 10 years, 2nd one I went 8 years (And that was a midrange setup when I built it). Not saying I want to go another 8-10...

    Ground-up build, $1500 budget...set go! :)

Sorry for the confusion. This is a personal home-use system paid for by my company so that we can update our time cards. :) I do have some router-emulation software I will be running too. It's not full-blown production studio video editing, it's just personal video camera HD footage I would...

What do you mean by discrete? On-board? Neither of those boards has an on-board video card... Unless you are saying to nix those boards and get one with on-board video?

    Ground-up build, $1500 budget...set go! :)

Now that I have my desk again (I've been using a laptop for the last 3 years!!!), it'll be nice to be back into a full-powered system. This is where I currently sit...these are just first thoughts to get a baseline down to keep pricing in check. Intel i7-920 2.66...

    Ground-up build, $1500 budget...set go! :)

Oh yeah...;) 1. What YOUR PC will be used for. Typical computer usage, plus HD video editing, some gaming, nothing fancy. Media storage on another computer. 2. What YOUR budget is. $1500. Company allowance, I don't need to cut back anywhere. I can go over, out-of-pocket if absolutely...

    Ground-up build, $1500 budget...set go! :)

It's always fun to play with someone else's money right? :) I'm getting a $1500 allowance from my company to buy/build a computer; so I don't need to cut back anywhere to "save" money. I am pretty set on basing it around the i7-920 2.66GHz Bloomfield processor (1366), unless you can...

Bloomfield and X58 vs. Lynnfield and P55 - a guide to help you choose what's best for you.

Good info. Does this still hold true 4-5 months later? I am doing a ground-up build, planned on using an i7 920.

    Q6600 versus Q9300

D'oh missed that post, thank you.

    Q6600 versus Q9300

So the 9300 is the better buy and performer right now, but the 6600 would be the way to go if you are more into tinkering with overclocking? 6600 seems to be so popular, 2660 reviews vs. 200 reviews. It's also not the same price or even close, at least on Newegg. Am I missing something?

Why won't my bios keep the FSB setting saved?

Simply put, it's booting at 150 MHz, even though in my BIOS it says 133 MHz...I don't get it. Also, when I save & exit, it just goes black screen, I have to hit the button to reboot.

Why won't my bios keep the FSB setting saved?

Should be 133 MHz FSB on my A7N8X Deluxe with an XP2100+ Thoroughbred chip. Sometimes it boots up at 100MHz as a 1500+; other times it's booting up at 150 MHz, my old setting I had it at; but it WON'T boot up to what's in the freaking bios. Any ideas? I have 1001.G bios version, I tried...
