I have an SB Live! and had no problems installing WinXP, Windows didnt even let me install anything it had the SB drivers already.
Try letting WinXP install all the drivers that it can on its own(save yourself the head ackes).
It could also be that he is putting video cards on a built-in video mobo, try setting up the PC with just the default(mobo) video and then integrate the other video card(s).
I had a similar problem with my sisters Apollo mobo and a Voodoo 3 3000 PCI.

Yes, member man heat no matter how low is still not good if coming from your computer. I only have a 20 gig Maxtor 5400 but I stil try to keep it as cool as possible. Better safe than sorry.

Acer CDRW can suck my ....err actually I wouldnt even do that with them.

I only use the fans on my CPU(2) and thats it!
My computer is like the Rambo of comps, it runs all day and night and let me tell you during the day its hot as heck in my room and during the night its freezeing cold.
I should rename my comp to Commando Comp or something this sucker has survived...
With my personal past experiance I would go with the Maxtor over the Seagate they just have always been more reliable for me. But over all I agree with John I would much rather have an IBM, they are as far as I'm concerned the best.
Hmm strange I had the same problems with a Rage Fury Maxx and an Athlon system :I
But I took the easy way out and just gave up, so I bought a Hollywood+ card.

The main things to look for are:
1)Brand
2)DP(dot pitch) between .24 and .27 are fine but the lower DP the better quality pictuere youll get.
3)Price Ive been noticing a trend lately that most mom and pop type store will sell the initial computer parts cheap but then screw you on the monitor go...
