Running onboard NIC I have no issues, get 30mb down 1.9mb up. However using Wireless NIC (PCI) it can't handle "full speed". So if just cruising internet or streaming audio, no problem but if doing a speakeasy speedtest for example where there's the burst followed by full speed, it freezes and...

added external esata hard drive --> no sound!

you could try reinstalling the audio driver AFTER enabling the external drive. it's been years but had an audio prob similar and it had to do with the order of the devices firing up, or drivers being loaded. sounds like you external drive driver is trumping the sound driver.

browser can't connect but I can still ping?

Sounds like anti-virus or firewall issue. I kept getting that recently using Avast. Thought for sure it was firewall related but nope, Avast. Try disabling all the junk and they try your browser. If this works, then just enable one at a time to figure out which one it is. In my case, until...

Harddrive Help, wont work

If you can't find something to get the data before the format, you can always to a format "Q" which basically doesn't erase anything just makes the drive available to write to. So you could reformat (using Q) then go in and get your data back. Format C:\ /q The 'C:' is the drive letter...

Need help

The obvious is to rip everything out you can, all the hardware you dont need. Use onboard video if you have it, and can. Vista needs so much Video memory so that might not be an option, but remove hardware that you can. Also, are you running RAID at all?

Screen saver is freezing, not sure why.

Liteon DVD drive not recognized

does it show up in device manager? if so, disconnect the drive, then disconnect it from the dm. reboot. then power down and reinstall the drive. see if reinstalling cleanly would help xp set it up correctly.

Has my power supply failed?

one thing you could check, to help determine if it's the psu or not is to disconnect all but one HD. In other words (using the 250) disconnect the floppy, add'l HD's, cd roms and so on. The 250 should be able to handle that assuming it's a health 250 psu. If you still get the same beeps I'd...

The problem with passwords

agree the thumbdrive approach, not to mention you can carry other items there as well. as Trentsteel said, support Anandatech if you can, but if you must be REALLY safe you can always get a thumbdrive with the fingerprint secrure stuff. here's an example THUMBDRIVE
