I turn mine off as soon as I am done with it. Even if I will turn it back on in a few hours (like if I go out to dinner). The computer is now 6 years old, everything is running fine though it is dated and I'm going to build a new one.
My computer at work I leave on. In 3 years a HD has...

I'm now leaning back towards getting the system I originally intended instead of cutting corners for cost.

Newegg doesn't carry them. I would prefer to get everything in one place but a few components elsewhere are ok.
Still looking for the answer on Modular cables.....
Corsair also seems to be $50 more than everyone else. Since there are only a few DRAM fabs left I bet that some of the ram in Corsair is the same manufacturer and process as say OCZ (but I don't know that for sure)
The PSU is an interesting question. Obviously I am getting a lower powered...
I've spent the last 2 or 3 weeks researching and deciding what to get. Prices seem to stable and while RAM prices are likely to come down the when could be some time from now. I'm most concerned about getting something that is incompatible with another component. So any comments would be...
I'm putting together a new system. Since I am not a major game player I don't really care about DX10 cards so building now isn't a big deal, except for RAM prices. What is the consenus of the board:
1. Bit the bullet and spend ~$300 for good quality 2X1G ram
2. Be cheap and get lower...
I was considering the AC7 if I think I need one. I wasn't planning on going up to 3GHz though, I'm concerned about lifetime of the parts as well.
I was thinking more like 333 Mhz on the FSB (2.664 GHz)
I would think that if you don't plan to overclock that the stock cooler would be sufficient. I would bet that the stock cooler probably handles some overclocking but not anything extreme but I am not speaking from experience only from what I've read in my research.
What is this cooler? I checked on Newegg and came up empty.
I'm investigating cooling options right now. I'm planning my system and expect to go with a mildly O/C'd E6400 (FSB maybe 333 depending on what RAM I end up with). I'm not sure I even need anything other than stock cooling but I'm...
I plan to OC the system once I get it up and running stock but I won't be going crazy with the OC. Just some extra performance without having to pay for it. At what point does AC make a difference over the stock, 10% OC, 20%?
I was told for my upcoming system build (my first) to get Arctic Silver 5 for the CPU HS. I went to Newegg and read a lot of reviews that said it didn't make that big of a difference over the stock material that comes with the retail CPU (which I plan to get E6400).
Can all of these be do to...
That doesn't seem to make good business sense since you'd be forcing people to upgrade both their PSU and Vcard and less people are likely to do that. Why force customers away?
It also doesn't make a lot of sense for the standpoint of the silicon based on what we are seeing out of the CPU's...
