Yes Wild, I am trying exactly like you said to run the old programs. I will re-install stuff I have discs for and give up on any others. Ive given up on the ide/sata adapters and just going with the ide cable. I did try powering both the adapter and the hd. No dice. How would i go about...

is the backing plate the "retention bracket" that you have to buy separately? Do you have to get behind the mobo to install the plate/bracket? I'm guessing yes, and thats why you haven't done it yet.

Thanks Blain for your response. When am I running EaseUS? Before I've loaded os? If so, not sure how to do it. I plan to partition the bare min. Pretty much as you've described. Thanks for the tip about not being 640G. I probably would have been shocked.
