Confession: I hate my Apple TV

Yeah, I agree. I just sold my ATV w/ Boxee. I went with the PS3 route before, but I want this as a media server in my bedroom and I don't really need a PS3 in my bedroom. I recently took the plunge and bought a new up& comer Xtreamer. Haven't received it yet, but the reviews/specs looks good.

Yahoo mail > Gmail

Semi off-topic: I've been using Yahoo mail for ages. but with yahoo mail search broken (at least for me) and gmail providing POP for free, I'm thinking of switching. The wrinkle is, I have 4000+ emails in yahoo (in multiple folders) that I want to save. Is there a way to transfer these...

stupid MCE question

How do I tell what MCE version I'm running? I reinstalled MCE out of the Dell CD I got. On the CD, it says MCE 2005. But when I go to my computer's properties, it says MCE 2002. Did Dell give me the worng CD or does it say 2002 for all? how do I tell for sure which version I'm running?

ATI X600 vs all-in-wonder 2006

Yeah, looking at the website, the PCIe (which is hte one I'm considering) is X1300. So by pure numbers does that mean the AIW is better than X600 since it's X1300? Well, the X600 is because my friend has it and he's willing to sell it "cheap" to me.

I've been out of the loop regarding video cards since I'm not really a gamer, but I need to upgrade my current <beyond ancient> nVidia Quadro 2 Pro :D I realized that AIW has a TV tuner that X600 doesn't have. But taking that _out_ of the consideration, which one is a better video card...

Fixed link. I'll try to put up a picture of it tonight. It does have a fan. It claims it can only support up to 250gb, but I've read on the net people putting a 400gb in there.

HD Problem - not running in DMA Mode

For anyone that cares, I solved the problem. It was the motherboard chipset drivers issue. Dell doesn't "support" WinXP on the 400SC machines, so they don't have the updated driver online. But when I download it directly from Intel and installed it, the next reboot all drives were detected as...

HD Problem - not running in DMA Mode

I got excited when I found a "knowledge base article" from Microsoft that would explain why what I experience would happen. Essentially, WinXP would log each errored event (CRC error) that happens on a HD. It would "downgrade" the speed of the HD when there are errors.. DMA mode 5, would go...

How to copy a hard drive

If the other drive is any of the big manufacturer (Maxtor, Western Digital, Seagate, etc).. You can download program off their respective website that would make an identical copy of the old HD. This usually comes with the HD when you buy the retail version..
