That drive is the 5900 rpm on Amazon that is running the cheaper price. THe best price I have seen in the past 2-3 months has been on ebay via newegg for the 7200rpm version at $200 I am waiting for that to popup again.
Anybody ahve these in a zfs array or hardware raided? I am wnating to build a nas box, but I don't know if these would suffice or not. Mainly just media storage and recording from the tuners over the network.
I guess I should of been more clear. I also run a raid 10 on my office PC that stores all the business documents... as far as on the NAS it would be things like business application images, music, video. I also am vpn'd in to a datacenter 24/7 so anything as serious as tax documents or work...
Thanks for the links and suggestions guys. I haven't really made that many considerations when it comes to the case the system will go in. I am certainly open and the cases I have seen that you have posted l think look great. That fractal design looks ideal and would support future expansion...
What are your end device requirements and what kind of OS environment are you working with (and/or anticipate supporting)?
The OS environment in general are windows 7/8/8.1 machines. I stream all of the tv content onto the network and so this nas would serve as a place to store recordings...
So I am looking at building a NAS to store primarily media audio/video and stream them across the network. One big consideration I have is reducing power consumption and having a smaller form factor.
Mini-Itx Motherboard
Raid 5 or 6
Nas Drives 5 or 6
Preferably multiple gigabit...
I have an i5 nuc. I noticed it had an internal sata port. The question is what is the least intrusive method to power an external drive i you were able to get a sata cable off that port to the outside of the nuc?
Got a new NUC and it has no fan noise. Though the wireless card the Intel 7260 has terrible terrible speed. This is probably because it has a hd right over it. Has anybody seen any external antennae to connect to this card so maybe I could run a small line out of it somewhere to get real...
