Yes, your notebook wireless uses standards, a/b/g that are just that--standards--and if the wireless router is a a/b/g you will be able to connect (properly configured).

Wireless ve Wired? Poll

Wireless is always slower if it is secured with WEP or esp with WPA....if you're not using any security, then yeah, they'll be the same. No way is wireless the same speed if it is locked down...do Pre-N if you'd like, its not as fast.

If I do not broadcast my SSID, am i secure from outsiders?

I think besides not broadcasting ssid, mac filtering, doing wep/wpa... The best thing to do is narrow your DHCP scope. Lets say I have 3 computers....2 desktops and 1 wireless....the scope should be 4 computers in size...(includes the router) so the scope would be 192.168.0.1-4....that way...

Windows XP Pro SP2 and VPN (virtual private network question)

No i don't think its possible....you have to log in first without vpn, then do the vpn once logged in.... Somebody else chime in, cause this would be a real nice feature if it is possible...but I haven't seen it.... if you 'dial' in like you said....(which to me isn't vpn)....maybe you...

IBM ThinkPad wireless LAN + Windows Updates = ARRRGGH

Did you install just 'critical updates'....no drivers from windows update right? I would 'update driver' from ibm's website for the card or use rollback...windows critical updates shouldn't hose your wireless...I work on a lot of A31s and haven't seen this...although I have seen wireless be a...

Need help with wireless home network

make sure you share the hard drive with a share name, and make sure everyone can access it...make the name such as 'share$'....the $ means it is hidden unless someone can type it in first...map to that name as a drive share.... on each computer, either on c drive or a folder, right...

PC to PC connection problem

the 'router' has a 5 way switch in it probably....router shouldn't have anything to do it. In IP config are both systems getting their info from the router via DHCP? or are you manually doing it? Is the same exact user name/pw being used on both machines? Is the sharing permissions on the...

nweaver---are you the workgroup guy or what? At this point, I think we are just talking about setups, nothing about what 2k3 costs...I think that is inferred. Terminal Services is really handy as well from remotely (try doing that from a workgroup)....although they can change it, comcast...

The DC has nothing to do with internet connection other than handing out an IP addy....like I said, the 'modem' is hooked into a wireless router...with a piggyback switch....and just every computer is plugged into the switches....if the DC is down, the only difference is I can't see my share...

Problem with Belkin Pre-N Router

Even if DHCP is set to forever, once that computer is off the network it will reassign it if there are no other addresses left for a new computer.

Having issues getting this laptop online

More info! What ip addy when you dos prompt ipconfig? what is it hooked up to? dsl/comcast, a router, etc... WLAN is wireless, why do wireless if it is wired? what is the status of your card? (enabled, connected, etc.) does it say cable is disconnected? ...etc... Is it connecting to...

Getting randomly disconnected from the internet

not enough info man... i'd say its a comcast/dsl issue, like the modem...etc....but have no clue cause you don't give enough info...have you tried a 2nd computer? have you tried your system on someone else's connections?

Wireless bridge antennas

I have the belkin....much better reception than the netgear I used to have (which died)....I have both antennas sideways but don't know if it matters...I get 45mps everywhere in the household, 1500 sq place....get 30+ over at neighbors....I'd recommend it. Has the WPA as well
