R9 290 with the Gelid Icy Rev. 2

Yep, I am running it on +20% Power and clock, at about 1150mhz on the core. My memory is really awful though, I can't even touch it without crashes.

Err, sorry, the GPU is at 60 C. Also with regard to VRM 1, VRM 1 is the long line of VRM's, where i used zip ties. I just used the thermal tape for VRM 2 (the group of 3).

GPU vs CPU cooling

I've been curious about this for a while. So basically I don't understand why CPU and GPU temps are roughly the same for differently sized coolers at different sized coolers at different tdps. I.e., looking at some like a gtx 780 ti with the stock cooler going to maybe a max temp of 80C under...

The Arctic Accelero R9 290X-Xtreme III

Curious if anybody has tested both the accelero arctic extreme and the gelid icy rev 2 cooler on this card and could comment on gpu and vrm temp differences.

R9 290 Squealing noises

Hey, so I bought this card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125479 recently, and I've noticed this odd issue where when I try running benchmarks (valley, compubench, etc...) my card will start making very loud squealing noises. The noises don't occur in normal usage like games...

CF 7870 LE or R9 290

Yea, my monitor is 1920x1200. With regard to heat noise, I personally don't think the 290 will be an issue. I have no issue running my video card at 95 C (my 4870 already has been doing that for 5 years, lol). I will be using a mATX case though, so that may be an issue with two of those...

Ah, I totally forgot about TurboBoost, lol. Ok well I guess I will stick with the Xeon. It does sound like it would be worthwhile though to get a Z87 board just so that I can have the Xeon turbo boost up to 3.8ghz, even though I won't overclock it. Or do the H87 boards have MCT as well?

mfenn: Yea, I'm going to give it a little more thought, but I probably will stick with the current CPU. The only reason I would consider a better CPU over more RAM is becuase upgrading the CPU later is difficult, I'd have to sell the xeon and then buy a new one, wheras RAM is just buy + plug...

Sorry for being unclear. I tried to answer the prompt section to the best of my ability, but the reality is that while I would like to spend as little money as possible, I would really just like what is most optimal and in that respect I am willing to spend extra if it makes sense to do so...

Yea I think the PCPartpicker prices aren't correct. EVE clients typically take ~900mb of memory each. Also, what is the difference between a Xeon vs the 4670K, just more performance? Not really clear on this.
