If you're having problems flashing your bios from a boot disk, try using the Asus Update utility. I flashed the bios of my A7N8X bios from within Windows XP with this and encountered no problems.
the latest version is here: http://www.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/flash/asusupdt3.45.03.zip
I had this exact same problem. After screwing around with boot disks and the like for about 2 hours, I downloaded the latest version of the Asus update utility and flashed my bios from within Windows XP. Took me all of 1 minute.
I'd recommend trying this approach out if you're still having...
I have an Asus A7N8X Deluxe MB and I'm wondering if there is anyway to disable the memory check that occurs when the machine POST's. I have 1GB of ram in my machine and it can literally take several minutes for the board to run through the check for that amount of memory.
I usually hit escape...
Just thought of something else too: It may be the way you installed your cooling fan/heatsink. Try spinning the heatsink 180 degrees and re-installing and see if that helps also.
I had exactly the same problem with this MB myself initially. I eventually resolved it by removing my cooling fan/heatsink from the CPU and removing the aluminum shim I had used to protect my CPU core. I then just installed the cooling fan directly onto the CPU and that seemed to resolve the...
Try checking to see what temperature your cpu is running at from the bios. I just built a system using this board a few weeks ago and had a very similar problem. Turns out my heatsink fan was installed incorrectly and the CPU was overheating big time. The C.O.P function on the board constantly...
Have you checked to see if your CPU is overheating? I had very similar symptoms to what you are describing and it turned out that my CPU was overheating because the fan on my heatsink had been installed backwards and wasn't blowing air away from the heatsink.
Go into the bios and check to see...
Well, I think I found the culprit. After uninstalling the SATA software and experiencing no joy, I went into the bios. There I found the CPU was running at a very toasty 98 degrees Celcius. The ASUS C.O.P was kicking in and shutting the system down as soon as I did anything remotely intensive...
mechBgon,
I'm going to try your suggestions this evening and see what happens. I'll post an update to this board with my results probably tomorrow morning. :)
Yeah, I had considered the power supply angle myself. I have just upgraded from an Asus A7A266 based rig running a 1.33GHZ Athlon though, also with a 300W power supply, which I had absolutely no problems with. Given that my old rig had essentially the same hardware installed (Differences being...
I've just built a new rig using an Asus A7N8X Deluxe MB and I'm having major stability problems in Windows XP. Specifically, everytime I goto to play any game, the machine hangs and then shuts itself down in short order. I'm also experiencing the same problem intermittently when trying to use my...
