mid-range video card recommendation - is GTX960 still a good buy???

I'm in a similar boat, looking to get back into gaming but at least have a Radeon 5870 to tide me over. I considered buying a used GTX 760 or 960 but decided to wait for Nvidia Pascal parts to arrive this year and drive down the prices of 970's...and hopefully find a used 970.

bdubyah, I had the same experience too with Fear being far more sensitive to the video card OC than Crysis. You described the exact same lockup I had with Fear and have had with COD4. I dumbed my card down to 600/900 (left shader OC'd to 1600) and for the first time did not have any issue in...

Mandin62, just another thought: when you removed the OC settings from your video card, did you also remove the shader overclock? My particular XFX Alpha Dog Edition 8800GT came with core=640, shader=1600, and memory=950 according to NiBiTor. To fully remove the XFX's overclock you'd need to...

Samsung LCD monitors

I had the same experience as Glob with a Samsung 226BW (a 22" model) where very dark colors appeared brown or cross-hatched with brown/dark gray. I was playing Doom 3 at the time and wow was it noticeable ... it looked terrible. I immediately exchanged it for a LG that reproduced dark colors...

What max wattage does an Nvidia 6800 (non GT or Ultra) draw?

Genx87 - Good call on the external power connector suggestion, I guess they already thought of and dismissed that idea :) This weekend I installed the vanilla Nvidia 6800 into the Shuttle SS51G with its 200W power supply, and it worked like a charm. I never experienced any lockups or stability...

Thank you Vivan. I've ordered an eVGA 6800 and will post the results here. If it doesn't work out, I saw that Newegg sells a stronger 250W power supply, so that's a nice option. Thanks again.
