What Gortcorps and others have said. Do your best to save up at least maybe $500 to $600, even if that takes you a while, and then do the build. You'll be way happier with it if you do.
So we're talking a place like New Balance for specializing in running shoes? They have fit me for work shoes before.
Being new to all this I had no idea there was such thing as a pure running shoe store.
I had read that the i5's critical temperature is about 72C, and that from Intel's own specifications. Is the real danger zone significantly higher than that, then? If you're running up to mid-to-high-80s on hot days then 72C just can't be the critical temperature for an i5 (that you run an i7...
I paid a visit to a local sporting good store and got a few recommendations on running shoes. My favorite is a Nike shoe that more resembles a sock with a rubber pad on the bottom than an actual shoe, but when I stand in them my feet are wide enough that a portion of my foot hangs over the side...
So I was playing BC2 and out of nowhere I start getting some ridiculous screen flicker. I pop open RealTemp and my CPU was running at 60 to 65C on all but one core. Looks like I may have to re-apply that thermal paste.

The point is, I really hope...
I'd rule out software-related issues before I worried about hardware.
When your computer is lagging, open up the task manager (ctrl+shift+esc) and go to Performance. Watch your CPU and memory usage. If they're spiking beyond the levels that you think they should be, check the processes tab and...
Having run the test again, three of the cores hover around 78C at their hottest. The fourth core runs a comparatively icy 8 to 10C cooler than the other three.
I'm leery of going in and doing something like re-applying the AS5 just out of fear of making it worse more than better.
Good suggestion on the 6870 vs. 560. Still plenty of time to think it through, and if I do decide to get a GPU either of those might be my choice, although I'm going to look at a matchup between the 6870 and the 6950 here in a bit. Still, I'm impressed with the gains I've seen just in CPU /...
