P805D slows to a crawl

Well, it was not the dust bunnies. The thing was pretty clean. CPU temp before and after the suck out was in high 50's Celsius, I guess not bad for a stock clocked P805D with OEM cooler. On the HD failing idea, would that slow down browser loading pages or make the CPU stay maxed >90%...

P805D slows to a crawl

Avast actually found a trojan in the Windows dir on its boot scan that the others had missed, but it did not fix the crawl. Anyone know of a mobo part failure that could cause this slowdown? It is a 2 year old eMachines, BTW. I still have not gotten to rolling back to an earlier restore...

Well, S&D, AdAware, and McAfee's did find some stuff, and CHKDSK did a run that took FOREVER. But I can't say all was well after that. Tomorrow, I am going to restart in diagnostic and turn off some startup stuff little by little until I discover the resource hog.

can you mix two different brands for SLI?

I was thinking about maybe doing the same with two diff brands of 8800GT. 30% performance gain is sort of disconcerting, however. Should diff brands work in SLI and should a 512mb version of the 8800GT SLI with a 256mb 8800GT? I have never run an SLI setup, but do have Crysis waiting for a...

Q6600 or E6600?

Very nice analysis. I don't do sophisticated games, but I do plenty of encoding and would like to do other stuff at the same time. Newb question, but What utility assigns programs to a single core? When the price comes down, how do we find specifically G0 quads?

Yeah, that's what I thought immediately. I hate to waste it, but once I buy a P35 mobo and better PSU, I've spent as much as a whole new part list but without the new age Antec case or something else. I dunno. Got another week to think it over before my ability to return without restock runs...

So with the receptiveness to overclocking without overheating, you might rec. waiting on the q6600 price cuts late this month but take back the Acer in favor of something with a OC-friendly BIOS? Makes sense.

Thanks. I was afraid of that. Kinda defeats the purpose/convenience of having built in WiFi, though. Oh, another thing. When I setup say a 3 disk RAID 5 array, they have to be empty disks, right? Then transfer all the media in from the HD they are currently on.
