When the hell is ATI going to slash the price on the 9800pros?

Not gonna happen for the time being. I checked newegg and the prices have gone UP instead of DOWN for 9800 pros. I can't believe a few months ago they were selling for like 175-210. Now they're all 250 dollars. I hope that's just happening for one site.

Building a system...any tips?

Are their any parts like your monitor that you can salvage from your other pc if you had one? I think you're psu is more than enough. I'd reuse an old graphics card until I got more money than buy a new, but obsolete graphics card.

I may be out of line since I haven't kept up with monitors in a while. But I believe that it's normal to hear complaints about defects from a lot of people when that monitor is so damn popular. You'll find 2,3,4 times as many people who have received perfect monitors. It seems like the...

X800Pro vs 6800nu

Definitely if you want to keep to card for a couple of years. In many current tests on the review sites, I remember them being close in performance. Maybe not at 1600X1200 and above. Goddamn there are actually higher resolutions being tested now.

Well, didn't ATI stop trying to compete with NVIDIA back when hardware(openGL, glide, etc.) rendering was the coolest thing around and focus on software rendering(Direct3D) which at the time was considered to be the lame default? Then Microsoft actually improved DirectX and that changed...

I don't really see it as a "gaming benchmark" as much as I do as a hardware benchmark or maybe a prosumer graphics benchmark. I mean there's so many different environmental factors involved you can't say THIS is what games are going to be published by game companies. I also think it's funny...

Your Opinion/Recomendation on 19" CRT Monitor ?

If you go Viewsonic, go for the G or P series in CRT. NEC is a good second choice, but I don't think the picture is as clear as I'd like.

Should I buy a new video card just to get an HL2 voucher?

Not really. If that's the best you can get, buy it. But don't do it for the voucher. HL2 isn't going to run great on that card and since the game isn't out yet, we don't know if the rest of your system needs upgrading to play the game.

Want an LCD

That's one of my fears right now. I mean these things still cost a lot of money. That will quickly change though with manufacturing methods improving. My next monitor will definately be an LCD and by then, it should be all fixed. I say buy it in a store and raise hell about checking the one...

will a DVD fit in a slim CD jewel case?

Um, yeah they do. But I've read that it isn't a good idea because that little center area puts different pressure on the discs than dvd cases. That could shorten your movie/dvd lifespan. I don't know for sure, personally, but it's something to look into.

Why is everyone so nuts about DVI ?

It's like getting the newest pair of running shoes when your 5 years old. You think it makes you run faster. I've heard that the differences are really minor. The geometry feature sounds nice, but that depends if you do more with a new monitor than plug it in turn it on.

754 or 939?

Yeah, but I believe I did the figuring for this in another post. He can either put in less money now and get the same amount of power as 939 today and then upgrade to nforce4 939 when it's as cheap as nforce3 754 is now down the road, say two ot three years. Or he can put in more now and then...

What's wrong with my right-rear speaker?

I've got an aging three piece ACS45's which has, surprise, a problem with the right speaker. Just like you guys, the problem is in the subwoofer connection. With me its the one that the sound cable from the pc fits into. I gotta jiggle it to get sound out of the right speaker. It's funny because...

Soundstorm and new 5.1 speakers...

That's way too complicated. If it was say realtek or something worse, it'd be worth it to get a soundcard.
