If you do borrow DVDs and CDs from the library, please treat them well. My wife works at the library, and some of the DVDs come back looking like somebody let their kids play frisbee with them. And of course, they'll swear they did nothing to damage the disc, and the library has to replace it...
A quick and simple way to dispose of a CD: put it inside a thick magazine (to contain the pieces), then bend it until it snaps. If it won't break, turn it 90 degrees and try again (they seem to be very flexible in one direction, and brittle in the other). This will break the CD into several...
I wasn't out to get a lot of stuff, so I made out fine. Got to Staples at about 6:30 a.m., and was dismayed to see a line of about 100 people. But then I realized it was the line for Target. At Staples, maybe 30 people in front of me. I got the 30 gig hard drive (the last one on the shelf)...
I picked up the Imation combo deal at Office Max (on Saturday, thanks to the "Sneak Preview" list), and the CD's I got are marked 40X. The sales clerk rang up the whole combo at $9.99, so I don't have to wait for any MIR this time. (I suppose I could get the rebate form and send it in, to make...
I didn't find the CD labels, but I did pick up two 50-packs of the HP CDRs for $4.97 each. They were marked $12.97; I asked the clerk to scan them to verify the price and they were $4.97 in the system.
Shagger, according to the Smart Burn program I got with a LiteOn CDRW, the Fuji (TY's) are cynanine. Imations are phthalocyanine. Interestingly, my car CD player will not play anything recorded on TY's (I've tried Fuji and TDK), but works fine with the Imations.
Thanks! I got the last one in my local store. There were none on the shelves, but a clerk (who actually knew something about computers, and had bought a drive for himself and one for his roommate) told me that one was in the back. A customer had come in, picked up the wrong drive by mistake...
This is a little late, but when I ran into the $79 vs $89 problem, I called Outpost's toll free number. The CSR took my order over the phone for the $79 price. Just a thought, in case you run into this kind of thing in the future.
I second what Boogak said. I have a 48mb card in my 800, and it will hold over 500 of the low-resolution photos I use for work. Don't rely on the slow serial connection. I bought a couple of Lexar compactflash cards when they were giving away the USB "Jumpshot" cable for free, so that's what I...
Our local store is pretty good. I've price-matched meat on sale at a grocery store (that's about 10 miles further from home than WalMart), and yesterday price-matched an iron that was in a Sears ad. All I had to do was show them the ad at the checkout, no hassles at all. Haven't tried an...
Out of curiosity I checked to see if Staples.com had the iPaq in stock. They don't, but they will sell you a nifty USB sync cable (apparently the same one that comes with the iPaq) for a mere $140.99
Such a deal!!
