Replacing it yourself void's the warranty, although, Canon's warranty is so flimsy that I am sure taking the camera out of the box would void the warranty as well.
Plus it is the principle of the thing...paying $50 for something I didn't do but is a result of Canon's poor engineering?
Unfortunately, I bought my PowerShot SD400 on the 9th of September (this year) and 4 days later, the screen cracked. NewEgg refuses to replace it, stating that I a) damaged the camera physically or b) it must have been damaged when I shipped it for an RMA.
