Shaftymcnasty,
Thanks for the post! Sorry for delay! Well, unfortunately, I delayed purchasing due to a bunch of unexpected personal reasons (good and bad). Now I'm about ready to buy but the CPU prices are all different (higher!)...
I'm definitely going to go with the 6870 card as well as...
Well done on the build! I don't know if you saw my thread after you posted a response at all, but I'm about to wind up with a very similar system! :) Glad this is working out.
Thank you, jchu14. That's a great article!
Hey, a question for you all that I forgot to throw out there initially. I have a 32'' 720p Sony Bravia TV. I want to use this as a gaming monitor from time to time (lie in bed with games!). I also want to use it once I have a Blu-Ray player in the...
Thanks .... again!
There's a lot to think about here. I poked through the mobo motherboards (the new suggested one without 890GX and my old pick with it). I'm a bit less excited about the new pick, but it doesn't seem to be too much of a difference. You make a good case against crossfire...
Thanks for the excellent feedback as always!
1. Thanks! As an OC noob, is it fairly safe to change that multiplier with a stock fan?
2. Crossfire is a potential future choice (yet another argument for the 6850, which will be in production longer than the 5770 should I decide this later)...
Thanks or pointing this out! I will save on the first combo for sure.
The interesting part of that second combo is that second power supply. However, I still hesitate on the Cas 9 memory versus the Cas 7. I guess I"m totally insane on this one since people seem to disagree. Would someone...
Alright gang... What do you think?
Here it is... the final (?) draft of my proposed build:
CPU : AMD Phenom II X4 965BE
$159.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103727
Motherboard : ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3
$134.99 (after rebate)...
Thanks, Crucibelle! I did some looking around yesterday and today. My only problem with benchmarks is that I can never tell what's significant enough for me to notice. I think my conclusion is that I will not notice much of a difference with 965BE instead of the i5, and therefore I'd benefit...
Boy is that interesting!
Anyone think I should make the jump up to the HD 6850? $179 to outperform the HD 5770 without having to do the HD 5830 nonsense. Hmmm...
This also begs the 6850 vs. 5830 question. You guys mentioned that the 5830 doesn't perform better enough (over 5770) to justify...
Thanks for the input muskie32. I definitely appreciate it.
Unfortunately, I ran the numbers on my case, PSU, mobo, CPU, and HDD, and I'm currently under the level of that combo. Again, thanks though! :)
Thanks! I'll watch the prices (hoping that release happens tomorrow as anticipated!). I'll revisit upon some price drops and then pull the trigger.
Again, thanks for the help. I may run my final build idea on this thread in the days ahead if you all wouldn't mind checking it out...
Any...
Thanks for the input, mfenn. I will consider this as a way to save!
Well, it's looking more and more like I'll go the Intel route. In the meantime, I'm going to wait and see what happens to video card prices.
Here's a quick question to you all... (I may still go AMD based on this). If I...
Thanks again!
1. Great information. I'll watch this.
2. Thanks.
3. Also good info. Thanks.
4. Any reason to take that memory over the Cas 7?
5. Again, thanks! You're very helpful!
Thanks for the help guys. I truly appreciate this. A few questions:
1. Did you mean 5850? The 6850 will probably exceed my budget. (very sad :( ) Thanks for the advice too; I'll wait!
2. Thanks for the input. I think i5 is looking like the pick. Did I get a good mobo picked out for it...
BTW, should I go for 8GB or is that overkill and 4GB is a fine start for now?
To others: my Phenom II X4 vs. i5 760 conundrum is driving me bonkers. Any thoughts?
I'm really hoping to see a drop in video card prices after 6000 series launch.
