It was absolutely silent on my HD4870, even with fans on full blast. In a closed case though. Also, I kept the stock plate on to cool the VRMs.

I use SPDIF optical out on the mobo straight into my receiver? Video is sent directly to my 46" Samsung via HDMI. I read your specs and saw you're using z5500 and not a receiver. Sorry couldn't be of more help.
