what type of memory does my inspiron 6000d need

The Inspiron 6000D uses DDR2 memory (200-pin SO-DIMM). Technically, you only need PC2-3200 (DDR2-400, 200 MHz system bus). The Pentium M chips with 533 MHz FSB run at 133 MHz internally, which would only call for "DDR2-266" to run stably. I don't think you'll have a problem running...

Recommend a decent photo printer...

If you don't need card readers and end up going Epson, get the R200 instead of the R300. That's essentially the only difference between the two models.

The R300M is not a network printer. It is a variant of the R300 that adds a color LCD. The R320 replaced it recently. The only network printing option available for the R3xx series is the Bluetooth adapter, which would plug into the EXT-IF USB port on the front of the unit.

Reformatting a Dell laptop?

I reformatted my mom's Inspiron 5150 (which actually uses the same motherboard as the 1150) to install XP Professional. Not a single problem aside from having to grab all the drivers (and these are actually supplied on a separate CD that came with the laptop, if I remember correctly).

If you absolutely need the ability to print directly on printable DVD/CD media, your only choice is Epson. The Stylus Photo R200 is within your price range at about $100. It's no speed demon, but print speed is acceptable. It uses individual cartridges (CMYKcm).
