My IBM t42 screen ?

PCI-express to PCI

Is it possible to use a PCI-express video card in a PCI slot? I understand that if possible, the functionality of the "express" would be limited. I've just been out of the video scene for so long I'm out of the loop now...

Laptop Search help...

i'd look into lenovo.com for their manager's specials. they are selling a thinkpad t42: 2373HBU, for $2059, i believe. it's a 15" UXGA, 1.8 ghz p-m, 128 firegl t2, 512mb ram, 80 gb(customizable to other hds)...and a host of other stuff. apparently it's about a 500 or 600 dollar save off...

Whats the deal with ThinkPads?!

you also have to think about build quality and customer service quality. i don't believe that compaq can get anywhere near topping either of those qualities from IBM/Lenovo

Are there any notebooks worth getting besides a Dell???

try looking at www.powernotebooks.com. they sell powerpro and sager notebooks. pretty much just a reseller of no-name brand computers, but very fine internals from what i hear.

Protecting My Computer (Firewall / Router/ Anti-Virus /Spyware)

you should only be worried abotu performance if you have less ram...given you have 2 gigs..i don't think norton will suck enough out, although it does suck alot of resources.

you could probably buy a new laptop without worrying about serial ports, because there are tons of adapters online to buy from. www.usbgear.com is one i found quick using google.

i'll be attending college this fall, and i'm not sure if it is worth the money to get a 32 mb ATI Mobility RADEON 7500 in a T42 at $1769, or a 64 mb ATI Mobility RADEON 9600 in the same T42 setup at $2019...

Need Help With Laptop

keep in mind, anything that comes with the Sony name comes with the Sony price. i think that as a college student you should wait until later for a Sony. unless you're just keen on A/V superiority. i'd suggest an IBM T42/T43 series
