this is a standard card. too bad it'll probably take too long to implement and ati won't do it cause it would be like a slap in the face to them. still, it's a nice thought.
i have heard nothing but good things about the Powerpro 5:6. The price is great and everyone i know who has one says their quality is top notch. Also have read some reviews that say it runs quietly and has a pretty cool running temperature, definate pluses for a laptop.

you might want to hold up purchasing your software until you get to your school. A lot of schools have programs where they give you free office software or whatever you will need for your classes. Even if they don't, you can usually get the software for a discount from your university store...
