I've been following Apple closely for over two decades, including going to a macworld expo. I remember the big switch to OSX and to Intel. I think this move is huge, and I'm no fanboy. I've built Intel systems, currently run an AMD desktop and the only newish Apple product I have right now is a...
I think they're doing that and making sure supply is built up to some degree. Despite all the uproar about price, I think these will still sell well. They look to offer unprecedented performance.
And? The 3950x compares favorably to the 9980XE on a non-HEDT platform, for $250 less. Then you have to factor in the cuts in price to the 2nd gen TR options as well.
I have a 1600 now, will definitely pick up the 3700x near launch. I might try it in my B350 board since it already has a supported BIOS update. However, I may just sell my current cpu/mobo/ram combo and use this as an opportunity to get faster ram.
I used to be more concerned about getting an expensive motherboard but I've been very happy with my Asrock for $80. I completely agree with an above user that additional money spent on cooling/overclocking could probably spent better elsewhere (better GPU/display/etc).
After having one, I would reconsider the 29" size. I moved up to 34" 3440x1440 and it's so much nicer. The 29" was just too limited in vertical resolution/size.
I've also used both, currently using 240mm AIO. Honetly I feel like it isnt temps that holds the R1600 back, but rather the inherent limit. I still run mine around 3750 despite it staying very cool. I'd focus on faster ram or some other upgrade if you are trying to squeeze more performance out...
Not really. However, I recently put a GTX 970 into my Q6700 system with 8GB of ram and it surprisingly ran some modern titles. However, someone pointed me to this: https://www.techspot.com/article/1313-intel-q6600-ten-years-later/
As a previous poster mentioned, even a current budget processor...
I'd say it's better than incremental. However, I'd wait for the 12nm Ryzen refresh. Also not necessarily sure if NVME is much better in day to day use but I'm enjoying a 960 Evo as my startup and an 850 EVO for games and apps.
