In what areas is the Pentium better than AMD

AMD64 = Better at gaming Intel P4 = Better at multitasking, video, etc.

im very pleased with my OCZ powerstream 600W, its under a lot of load. stable rails, and if they go below spec, then you can always bump them up. ;)

Cleaning of thermal grease...

i use isopropyl, works like a charm to clean of AS/any kind of grease. i heat the heatsink/cpu to remove the thermal pads.

the pentium 4 can handle up to 70C before it starts throttleing. also do you have HT enabled on the cpu? if so then you should run two instances of prime95. if you get a constant 65C+, then i would consider upgrading the cooling.

see if you can get some better quality ram, you will have to set it to 5:4 to get more of an overclock. im not ocmpletely sure about this, but i think a64's are pretty picky then it comes to ram.

1700+ @ 2.1ghz

i remember back in the day there were a bunch of 1700+'s released that were truely ment to be like 2200+ or something like that, they just didnt meet the amd temp specs, so they dropped it down to 1700+. good show, so looks like you got one of those, if so, then you have more headroom than just...

Fastest Way To Transfer Files Between 2 Computers?

agreed, but if you do not have one, and its not too far away, then a crossover cable can be used, thats what i use to transfer large files from my laptop to my desktop and vice versa. network wise, remote desktop is pretty fast, granted you are on a fast network.
