Maybe you've just downloaded the graphics driver rather than the whole package? http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx Motherboard/Integrated Video Drivers> Full Catalyst Suite or Individual Drivers(Motherboard/Chipset)>OS of choice or you may have to go with a 'legacy' driver...

CPUID Hardware Monitor

Which one are you concerned with? The only dodgy one I can immediately see is CPUFANIN1 'max' reading and that could be a fan sensor problem.

How do I uninstall the nForce4 IDE/SATA controller drivers permanently?

Download the latest version, disconnect from the internet, safe mode, uninstall all nVidea drivers in add/remove, run DC Pro, install latest drivers and don't take the option to install the IDE driver? It's been a little while since I did it.... Also tried removing from the control panel -...

Thanks but unfortunately the cheapest GPU locally is ATI HD3450 @ AU$39 and an add-in firewire card is $AU15-20 taking the G31 option up to AU$126 minimum.
