I wonder why servo data, parameter information or head info would be so drive-specific that it's instruction set changed drive to drive. The hardware isn't different between drives. What am I missing?
Also, by "tuning the settings of a working BIOS chip" do you mean basically cloning data from...
I was curious if any geeks on here (including Anand) has comprehensively tested SSD's using strictly PartedMagic & the latest forensic technologies. If anyone has solid non-anecdotal information (besides vendors own data) regarding PM please post.
No, as I said I've already swapped boards w/ at least partial success (new board powered up drive/platters whereas original board couldn't even do that any longer). However, drive is not recognizable by OS yet. Over a hundred hours of research and several experts later pointed to ROM chips...
Thanks for sharing your experience but I am looking for comprehensive test data proving Parted Magic's efficacy. In other words, many more than single sample size.
I would hope that someone somewhere in Anandtech or on the planet is a data recovery genius who has conducted the most comprehensive tests available to mankind to test Parted Magic or vendor-specific "erase" utility on SSD's. Has anyone found empirically comprehensive test data which is reliable...
I have recently replaced the IC board on my original Hitachi SATA 320 Gb HDD as a power surge or static zapped it and would not power up the old board any longer. After much research I followed protocol, matching 3 of the first 4 set of reference numbers, and purchased a matching drive from a...
Thanks all for your advice. Sorry for late reply.
I wish I knew the potentially tighter compatibility requirements b4. I fulfilled ALL drive replacement requirements as required by fleabay merchant. The ROM chip is a fairly standard chip with the pins on perimeter of chip. What are my final...
My old HDD ic board is bad and wouldn't even power up. I matched ALL required reference numbers and got another drive off fleabay. After swapping boards, the new board audibly fired up old drives discs (unlike old one) but OS/Disc Management couldn't see it. I found out it was the ROM chips that...
Whoever says that CPU speed and RAM have absolutely nothing to do with disc read/burn times (unless there is something physically wrong with them and they are running at EXTREMELY low speeds) and that the bd drive itself is the limiting factor is wrong-in my case anyway. Almost everything I've...
I'm putting new OS on tower which has burner. Thinking about sticking same Lite-On in an enclosure to see how it does on my sons i7 HP lappy. Also I'll research some drives a bit more. Any suggestions/personal favs welcomed.
