budget vid card for BF2 @ high resolution

played a bunch last night, seemed to be lot of servers running, not as many as in 2005, but still a lot. and for those of you all with widescreen monitors i highly suggest trying the widescreen fixer, much much better than the zoom/crop i played with for years before. no more tunnel vision...

thanks for the feedback so far guys, it looks like the 8800 or 9600 series are my best bet. really need to stay below $100, and the lower the better. maybe i should peek at the used hardware forums and see whats floating around there. my x800xl does play the bf2 demo smoothly on medium...

so i just found out that some awesome person just made a "hack" to make BF2 playable in real 16:9 resolutions, thus reviving my interest in the game. I dont think my current card (x800xl) will really satisfy me at my monitor's resolution of 1920x1080, so I'm looking for a CHEAP upgrade. Ive...

I finally made the jump from CRT to LCD

make sure your video card output is set to 1080p, NOT 1080i, which mine defaulted to upon hooking up to computer via DVI.

What kind of system do I need?

sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but youre not gonna be able to get that 40" CRT to function well as a computer monitor. its a CRT so its going to be interlaced, not progressive, and it wont truly be 1920x1080i, youll prolly need to use a program called powerstrip to adjust your video cards...

Gaming Rig For $3K

he definitely HAS to go with a large hi-res monitor, or else the ****** aint worth it. 24" dell is pretty cheap now <800$. or he could get a 37" 1080p LCD for around 1400 that is nice. why would he get all that firepower to play games at 16x10. if i had to blow 3k on a dedicated gaming...

i was referring to the fact that 16x12 20" lcds run 500$+ (american) its easy now to find 16x10 20.1"ws for about 300$ now.

550watts enoough for 1800xt?

i have a seasonic super tornado 400W. would this be enough to run an x1800xt along with 2 sata hd's, one optical and the rest of the stuff in my sig? this was one of the highest rated power supply available when i bought it

20" Widescreen LCDs-am I the only one who doesn't understand the point of them?

the argument of 20.1 WS vs 20" 4:3 is a retarded one due solely to the fact that there is a 200$ price difference between them. 20.1" WS should be compared to 12x10 lcds, and in this case i greatly prefer WS.

computer won't boot, please help me

i just noticed that it will be EXPENSIVE to replace my cpu, if thats the problem. please explain this to me: how is it that when i bought my cpu, 3000+ winchester, last march/april it cost me 153.00$. now it will cost me 175.00 to get a venice 3000+. people are ebaying/selling 3000+ winnies...

i really like my solution, although it is an expensive one: logitech bluetooth mouse with BT hub apple bt wireless keyboard. not sure if u wanted wiired or wireless

lord, any iinsight into what might be causing the fans to cut off when the cpu is placed in the socket ? all the fans shut down so fast after i short the power switch that i think something is immediately telling everything to shut down. really need help, i dont want to have to buy...
