I recently had lots of trouble with my new HD 5870. The problems all went away after I updated the BIOS on the video card. I suggest you check your card vendor's website and see if there is a BIOS update for yours as well.
I realized that the BIOS might be the problem after checking out some reviews on Newegg. The card has F3 and I'm going to update it to F7. Hopefully that will clear things up. I'll let you know soon.
I have one monitor connected via display port.
I have not overclocked the card.
I installed Media Player Classic and it plays fine there. I have no idea why windows media player is crashing. I am gonna have to try to get to the bottom of this.
I think maybe later I'll try the card in a...
I have already done a fresh install of Windows 7 and the problem persists. I can play mpgs just fine until I install the Catalyst drivers. I have tried the drivers that came with the video card and also the newest drivers from ATI's website. I get the same crash either way. I thought perhaps I...
I just bought a Gigabyte GV-R587UD-1GD. I installed the most recent Catalyst Control Center. Everything seems fine except I cannot play mpg videos. When I try, the driver crashes and sometimes the pc freezes completely. It must be a driver issue because the video will play fine before installing...
I never was able to get far enough into the Windows 7 installation to install any drivers.
I returned the motherboard and got a similar Gigabyte board as a replacement. I ran into the same problem. I did figure out that it was my dvd burner that was causing the issue. If I hook it up to the...
Thanks for the replies...
Windows does install when I switch to the sata 2 ports but it hangs if I plug anything into the sata 3 port. I tried just plugging in the dvd burner with my hard drives on sata 2 and it still hung. I'd just like someone to tell me if that's to be expected when using...
Yesterday I picked up an open box Asus P6X58D Premium motherboard from a local B&M store. Just for kicks, I decided to try installing Windows 7 Premium (on a Crucial CT64M225) using the Marvell SATA controller. The Windows installation hangs on the black screen that says "starting windows". Is...
When I read that Gigabyte released the beta BIOS, I pulled my Asus Maximus out and put my Gigabyte P965-DS3 back in. I get the same overclock I had with the Asus board so I'm returning it and sticking with the Gigabyte.
The Asus P5W-DH Deluxe board uses a 975 chipset and according to the Asus Website, it is compatible with E8200, E8400 and E8500. I believe those chips are 45nm
Actually, if anyone here knows the answer, it would be quicker. Gigabyte says they aren't answering email until after January 8. I guess they are on vacation or something.
