8400 to 4gz?

This seems strange to me. I got my E8400 almost 4 months ago on the day they came out. I'm at 4.05GHz at 1.3X volts (I'll have to go home and see what it actually is) with 24/7 stability easily. I could probably back the voltage off even more and be just fine. The tough part was trying to...

quad core vs. dual core for gaming

This is a really easy question. The title of the thread even says "for gaming." Not for folding. Not for folding and virus scan and MS Word and gaming all at once. For gaming, grab a cheap 45nm based dual core (E8XXX or E7XXX) and overclock it.

Nvidia or ATI?

3dfx? Voodoo 2 in SLI: Smoothest game experience to date. Currently I'd have to pick nVidia though. Hardware always seems to go back and forth, but ATI drivers have always been crap to me. That can always change of course, but the thread is not about the future ;)

I have to agree with nanaki333 about people being "fanboys." I see a lot of it on any hardware forum (even non-computer related hardware). There is no need to be so defensive about what you have. I just bought a G92 8800GTS, but I can still recognize that AMD has posted up some sweet numbers...

"out of the box" support for Wolfdale?

I, and it seems many people, are having trouble getting the abit IP35 Pro to read the processor correctly. The computer will boot and run no problem, but the temperature, voltage, and fan speed readings will all either be out of whack or completely out to lunch depending on your bios.

Yeah, that's pretty awful. Do that four times and you've added on a large percentage to your cost. I wouldn't deal with it. Do you need 4 gigs of RAM for something in particular? It seems like you'd be better off spending another $10 to get 2Gb of 800MHz RAM with decent timings and dealing...

Core 2 Duo E8500 Vs Q6600

Are you suggesting the Dual cores do not overclock? These apples to oranges comparisons confuse me. In this case, you can't make up for lack of clock just like you can't add cores. As much as the Q6600 will OC, the E8400 will OC more (I've seen over 4GHz on air, 5GHz with more esoteric...
