What is the fastest operating system for games?

XP Home. JK. >:) I've tried UT on Win98, WinME, Win2K Pro (SP2) and XP (RC1). WinME had the fastest framerate followed by XP and 2000. Can't remember 98.

mini copper orb

I've a Copper Orb which I tried for the hell of it (got it on Ebay for $14) Just using the generic white thermal grease, my 1.33 was running right at 50deg C. during normal use. It would go up to 55~57 after few hours of playing UT. Nothing spectacular but certainly well within acceptable...

Poll: So, will you buy Windows XP when it comes out, or stay with 98/2000?

ATA 100 help!

BIOS actually says mode 5 (ATA100)! But Win2k (SP2) and WinXP says mode 4. Who do I believe??? :)

Yep, using ATA 66/100 80pin cable. As you mentioned, I can't tell any performance difference when Win2k was showing mode 5 in the device mgr (before I started moving around 2HDs, CDROM and burner from primary to secondary.) Funny thing is, the BIOS shows mode 5....

ATA 100 help!

I've a IBM Deskstar UDMA ATA100 HD which is only running as ATA66 (mode 4) on my box. How do I get it to work in mode 5 (ATA100)??? I've checked the BIOS and it is set to mode 5 but device manager in win2k says mode 4. Any suggestions????

Help! How do I get ATA100 HD to work properly???

I've a IBM Deskstar 20Gig UDMA ATA100 HD which is running at UDMA ATA66 (mode 4). How do I get it to work in mode 5 (ATA100)???? In BIOS, it says mode 5 but in Win2k, it says Ultra DMA mode 4. Any help would be appreciated! :)

Dell 20% still valid if you CALL

WOw, good work Ross. I got in on the Netgear RP114 Cable/DSL router for $96 today. Cheapest price elsewhere was $120! I also got a 17" LCD monitor using the discount ($720 shipped) last week. But I have to say, their order tracking webpage sucks - half the time it's busy or goes AWOL on me.

Poll: Rounded IDE and/or Floppy Cables -- good or bad?

What's the big deal about rounded IDE cables? It's a waste of $50 for a set if you ask me. You can certainly make your own by using some shrink tubes. Anyway, who cares how it looks inside a computer: I certainly don't bring all my buddies to my lab and show off IDE cables on my rigs. So what...

DDR OR NOT?

Damn dude, if Bhungy is THAT anal over blowing 50 extra bucks on 256MB DDR SDRAM and DDR mobo, he shouldn't even have started this thread. If he IS, then by all means, buy some EDO, I mean PC133 sticks. Anyone who've bought a 512MB stick of any kind of memory, please raise your hand.

lastnight I wanted a Dual boot, now how do I get rid of it.

Just fdisk the b*tch and reinstall Win2k. Actually, Win2K setup should give you the choice to delete/create partions. WinME blows! :D

Win2000 NTloader

You need to install Win2k last I believe. WinME can't dual boot Win2k. Don't know about bootmagic but you may want to install it in Win2k. I'm curious why you even have WinME on your box????
