buying a processor is NOT investing
but word of mouth works, some companies like mwave actually list stepping info in their product description section.
T42p at the moment, just upgraded it with a 7200RPM drive and some patriot low latency memory. Feels smooth, as much so as my DC Opteron Rig except when gaming.
my X2 3800 (0601TPMW) did 2.9 at 1.47 on air and it went for 306.
my opteron 165 that does 2.7 at 1.325 though, those are going for 400 on ebay.
I don't understand the contrast as the extra L2 really does do much and the one less multiplier feels crippling for oc'ing, but the opteron 165...
the extra cache helps for compiling code and everyday applications. So if you're building a gaming rig, the extra cache does nothing for you.
BTW: My 2006 0601 X2 3800 is priming away at 2.9 and 1.4 volts right now, so I do agree that it is the chip to get.
