Here's one more vote for the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum. 3500+, 2x512MB Corsair 3200XL non-pro, Zalman heatsink, Antec power supply, zero problems.

Enabling all of my speakers

Why do you need Windows to play sound out of four speakers? Are you playing an audio source with 4 channels of data in Winamp, or are you expecting a simple stereo source to come out of all four speakers?

Is 800 MHz FSB required to fully utilize dual channel DDR400 ?

Dual channel means the data path is twice as w-i-d-e, not twice as =fast.

Note that I was not insulting phatTweaker in any way, but his friend who needs a fast computer to keep up with *his* friends. I was simply trying to point out that peer pressure is a silly reason to blow a tight budget on computing power you don't actually need. Still, thank you for your concern.

Auxiliary Power Connector Question

Modern CPUs consume more power than the people who designed the ATX power connector ever anticipated. The pins in the connector simply can't pass all the current that high-wattage CPUs need. The auxiliary connector may or not be technically required, depending on the load your actual CPU is...

Bulding new rig, help

A minor warning: if the A/V editing is important to you, you might be unhappy with the quality of the onboard sound. Is budget your only reason for *requiring* onboard sound?

Solved - HDD LED's?

I've seen master/slave conflicts do this; even though the devices may work, the activity LED never goes out. MDesigner, you didn't mention in the other thread that you *can* get the HDD to light (constantly) in one configuration...

HDD and power LEDs don't light up on Epox board

It doesn't; the green power LED is on a normal 3-pin/2-wire motherboard header. The two blue LEDs are probably on a Molex connector because of their current draw. Maybe your board is broken in that department... Good luck.

MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum?

If that's what you have, you shouldn't get the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum; they're not compatible. This board takes (at the moment) only the 3500+, 3800+, and the 939-pin FX53 CPUs.

The main thing you're doing wrong is not reading the nice manual that came with your Sonata. The blue LEDs are powered by the Molex pass-through connector, not by a motherboard header. The green power LED and the orange HDD activity LED *are* powered by motherboard headers. With the two...

Socket 939 Motherboards and Memory

I just got the MSI K8N Neo2 and two sticks o' Corsair 3200XL memory. The 3200XL series are made with Samsung ICs that are technically designed to be PC500, but at PC400 speeds you can get 2-2-2-5 latencies in dual-channel mode. They shold work fine at PC500 speeds and the Samsung-spec higher...

No problem. But don't get the XL Pro memory, it might be too tall. I've got the normal 3200XL and it fits fine, but I think a stick of Pro (with its extra height and lame-ass LEDs) in slot 1 would touch the heatsink. Greetz from southern California... *edit* You might be able to use Corsair...
