I got one of these NON-refurb from Office Max for $50 with free shipping last week. Did not know it was a "Hot Deal" or else I would have posted it. Got it from UPS two days ago. I think these go on sale pretty often.
Edit: Double checked and it is in fact a 2140 and NON-refurbished. Just...
I have no idea what post or advice of mine that you are referring to.
I will restate for clarity that a "good" PSU outputs what the little sticker on the side says it can output. A great PSU will exceed it's claims. A medicore PSU, though good enough for most people, will not do what it says...
If you need 546w you are better off with a well made 550w PSU that can put out 550w than with a 650-700w PSU that starts having problems over 450w. Thats what I am saying. Really, you are beter off with a 650-700w PSU that can put out 650-700w.
Also: No one called it a crap PSUs. It was...
How old is your Antec 380?
I would think that 380 would be fine for what you have. Pushing it, but fine as long as your PSU isn't over a couple years old. Could it be a problem with the drivers? I would try to reinstall your drivers first.
Also: SSDs boot really fast. I push the power button as I walk to my computer and by the time I am comfortable in my seat I am ready to log in. Hibernation is for laptops that may run out of battery even with very low power draw. Sleep is for computers that are plugged into the wall.
Thats actually a really good point. I stand corrected. Also: In the pre-edit post I responded to res was not mentioned.
Edit: Although with Dual link DVI its gotta be pretty high right?
I know he didn't ask about upgrading his CPU. Not every computer has to be balanced. I'm not saying you are wrong. I am saying "Oh crap....another one of those threads".
Edit to add: Im NOT saying you are wrong. Gosh I need some sleep. I apologize.
Oh no! This is gonna turn to a "Your CPU will never be able to feed that GPU and your computer will be unbalanced!" threads!!!! :p
His CPU is unimportant. He has the power and bandwith to run the best card he can get with $300, which is the 5850. The 5850 supports dual link DVI. Those were...
Just drop one of these in there, you should be fine on all fronts. PCIe 16x 1.0 runs at half of the bandwidth of PCIe 16x 2.0. Lots of people run their Xfire rigs just fine as 8X/8X which gives each card the same bandwidth of PCIe 16x 1.0. I wouldn't worry about it. It has dual link DVI and...
Instead of using your onboard RAID 5 just have a cheap 600-700Gb drive as a backup drive. That protects you against drive failure and MB failure at the same time while putting a lot less stress on the back-up drive.
Blowing air into your case, over the MB and back out the case will lower your temp.
Whats wrong with your temp? What is your temp? What is the temp in your room?
I have the current 9.5.3 drivers which were released in NOV 09. This is my first RAID card and I am not sure what to expect but I read on one forum or another that 9.5.3 was going to be the last non-LSI software update released.
Is it reasonable to expect 3ware to continue to support their...
I build all of my computers the way you do. A little by little. I also agree that its best of buy all at once but I enjoy the deal hunting.
Anyway I say get an Antec 300. You don't know much right now. Get a quality, low priced case now and spend the big bucks later when it actually matters...
