Where are the Blu-Ray and/or HD-DVD read-only drives?

What you're thinking of is a fix for timing issues. The only thing that can change core usage is an updated program from the software Dev.

Why are dual core processors slower??

2 cores, twice the heat. Top end of the Dual core will be lower than top end of single core due to heat dissipation, top end of Quad will be lower than Dual for the same reason.
