Lie or not -- I'm left without an upgrade path on a machine that was marketed as upgradable. Therefore, I will go with Intel when I buy my next machine. Especially if they stay ahead in the performance wars.

Oh well, this CPU is good enough to last me another few years. AMD is dead to me for lying about FASN8/Phenom FX though. The whole selling point of 4x4 was upgradability. Damn Judases.

The problem with that is I'm not sure the mobo supports registered RAM. And I think it would require a BIOS upgrade that doesn't exist.

AMD Phenom FX

Wikipedia says that Phenom FX is coming out Q1 2008. Was it delayed or canceled ? I have the 4x4 "Quadfather" motherboard and I am looking for an upgrade path from my FX-74's and shitty old Quad SLI 8800GTX setup. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L...Phenom_microprocessors All help is appreciated.

FX-74s running hot

I just got a new computer with the L1N64 mobo and two of these badboys. Unfortunately they might be too hot to handle. Both are running (idling) at 50-54C in BIOS (dangerously close to AMD's advertised max temp of 56C). I am using stock heatsink/fan and I am not overclocking. I did not apply...

geForce 7900 GT overheating

I bought it in early 2006, but it hasn't given me any problems until now. I can't RMA it to eVGA because I long ago threw out the original receipt. I haven't messed with the heatsink/fan yet. The weather is warming up...has it spiked in your neck of the woods? yes, but i keep my room cool...

Can I ask you how big of a performance gap you see between 2.4 and 2.7 on your computer and would you try it if you had el cheapo generic RAM instead of your uber Corsair? :P
