Not sure what happened, but while looking for a reset button -- there doesn't seem to be one -- I turned the printer off and when it restarted the error message disappeared and a scan went through. Not sure what to make of it, but I'll take it...

BEWARE of new Samsung 850 PRO Firmware!

To pick this up again, I've yet to see one crash dump out from any of the freezes. Does forcibly shutting down and rebooting delete them? I previously adjusted the page file settings to make sure they would be saved. I've been able to determine the freezes are not necessarily tied to audio...

Fair enough. Manually running as admin, making a connection, disconnecting awhile later and then rebooting returns the same error box.

You probably missed in the original post I mention "running as admin." My VPN service is started manually, so I wouldn't see why changing admin rights would affect the registry at computer startup.
