Asus A7M266 and Athlon XP 1900+

What kind of os are you running? If it's xp, then there's a setting that is trying to get too much out of the ram...set all the ram settings to default. That was my experience with a blinking curser.

Athlon 750 T-Bird without Fan? Opinions needed fast!

I'd have to say that it's too risky...just keep the fan on. I had a nasty experience with a cpu without enough cooling protection, so I'm not going to make that mistake again.

Question regarding Standby and CPU cooling?

From what I have heard, putting the computer in standby shuts down the hard drives and just puts very little power through the cpu. That would probobly explain why it was cooler in standby than just idling...and I don't know of any special cooling device that is activated when your comptuer...

When do i need dual processor ?

If you have the money, I'd definatly go for the dual processor because you'll certainly see a boost in performance. Video editing probobly requires a lot of processing strength, so I'd get the dual processor. But, then again, if you only plan to use it for normal everyday activities, you'd...

Connect Case Fan to Motherboard Header or Power Supply

I'd connect most fans to the PSU...in fact, I'd only connect the CPU fan to the motherboard. I think its best to have all fans running at a constant speed, unless you buy a special device like the DigitalDoc 5, which just uses a bunch of temperature sensors to shut down the fans you want at...

Whats the "best" cooling case out right now?

I bought a great case from newegg.com...its the Maxtop "Cool Case" and it comes with two 92mm fans built in...they're not that bad, either. Click here for a link to a couple of these cases. I think they're out, but they also sell this case without a power supply in case you wanted to put one in...

disturbing cpu temps

Part of the problem may be the heatsink...an AMD 1900 gets pretty hot, and it probobly needs a better fan on the heatsink...the 6cu only runs at 4550±10% rpm...the 6cu+ gets up to 7000±10% rpm. But I think the main problem is probobly in the main setup of your case...I can't imagine that the...

Something broke, but what!?

I had the exact same problem...the very same problem. I had to replace both the motherboard and the cpu, because it looked like the cpu fried (which it did) and then the motherboard wouldn't work with the new processor that I ordered. Anyway, no beep codes generally mean that there isn't a...

How much difference does Arctic Silver make?

I would use ArcticSilver only because its a brand name...I'd rather trust the brand name for something like the processor...better to spend the extra couple of dollars than to be sorry in the long run.

Temp monitoring software

Now that I think about it, I did have that problem...it only happened when I had it read in degrees F, but when I switched it to Celsius, it worked fine...try switching it to read in Celsius if you haven't already.

are these temps ok?

I can't imagine what would be 144C, but I'm pretty sure the processor is the 45C reading, which is just fine, and the motherboard is the 23C reading...those two are great readings, nothing to be worried about. The 144C reading is probobly just showing up because you don't have a thermal sensor...
