Here's my deal on the squeling LCD: I received a brand new replacement monitor that squeals, and Dell is giving me the runaround. They asked me to hook it up to several friends computers to determine whether or not it's my machine/video card that's causing the squeal, even though the problem...
Since my replacement has a July build date, do you suppose that I can be confident that I didn't get a refurbished unit? The stand wouldn't lock in the down position, and the plastic collar (for lack of a better term) at the top was kind of loose: the previous stand was great.
I'm pretty sure...
I got my replacement on 8/9, and it does not have the whining issue, dead pixels, backlighting: looks good so far. The stand, however, wouldn't lock in the all the way down position, so I'm using the stand from the original: it snaps into place nicely.
I don't think that I'd replace it for that. I'm worried that my replacement will have dead pixels or other issues, since the whine doesn't bother me too much. Oh well, if the replacement is worse, I'll send it back and keep the original. Actually, you could do the same thing to see which is better.
I just tried to get this at a Best Buy in Fort Worth, TX, and it rang up as $249: it was the last one in stock. Oh well, I'll just keep the one that I got from CC for $214 after rebate.
bigfil, have you experienced the whine that everyone is talking about? Mine starts the noise after about 45 minutes. It's not too bad, but I've heard that others are getting replacements that are quiet, so I ordered a replacement yesterday.
Otherwise, this is a great monitor.
This was posted on a Dell Home deal for the 2405:
"Dell 2405FPW for home, lowest yet for home. Enjoy!
$1199 - 33% off = $803
For those of us with DPA there's a $25 off 999 making it $778. With FatCash it comes down to 754.98!!!!!!!!!!
Don't use the 2% off, instead use the $25 off...
I'm glad you mentioned the annoying hum: I noticed it last night, and I was going to post a question about it today. I'm glad that it's not just mine. I was worried that I was going to have to deal with another return hassle.
Ok, that's good.
Did you just have to wait around the house for a few days until they picked it up?
It's discouraging about the refund. I used the Dell Preferred Account. At least you haven't had to make payments (I hope)
I'm returning a Dell 2405FPW within Dell's 21 days. The rep said yesterday that they would schedule a UPS pickup at my house. She gave me a return authorization number, and she said that I should write the number on the box. She said that the UPS driver would give me a tracking number and that...
Got mine today...2 days after ordering. It looks fabulous. Build date of June 2005, no dead pixels. I don't see any backlighting problems. $150 cheaper (after tax) than the one purchased in June!
