DNS server that resolves hostnames using ARP...?

In the instance that what I am asking for would be useful, the nodes would be on the same "arbitrary network". For instance, a random NATed wifi network. For situtations in which the nodes are on different arbitrary networks, I of course use dyndns.

DNS server that resolves hostnames using ARP...?

But I have no control over the DHCP servers of arbitrary networks.

DNS server that resolves hostnames using ARP...?

I understand how routing works. What I need is DNS server software (or script for an existing one) that can use ARP or be configured to call an external application such as arping to resolve certain hostnames. If this kind of software/script only exists as part of a larger 'network...

DNS server that resolves hostnames using ARP...?

I am looking for a simple cacheing DNS server that will (as an extension to normal behavior) resolve hostnames to IPs using a MAC table. For example, suppose the DNS server knows that the hostname "tux" is using the MAC "00:00:00:00:00:00" (this would be specified in a config file somewhere)...

need .g AP that can also do bridging

Ok suppose the neighbor's 11b AP was replaced with 11g instead (he's been considering this). Approx what % increase would this give my local 11g? (as opossed to a mixed b/g environment) It seems I was a bit confused as to the difference between the WRT54G and WAP54G. I've been doing some more...

need .g AP that can also do bridging

Source is 11b but the laptop is 11g and connects to a home network as well, so I'd like the speed. Does a "repeater" have all the capabilities of an AP? I only get 1 public IP from which I'd like to NAT my own wireless as well as ethernet networks with 1 device.

need .g AP that can also do bridging

I get internet from a nearby bulding and need a new bridge (current d-link POS crashes every 6-12 hrs) But I'd like it to be built into an AP so I can relay the signal to a laptop. I tried a linksys WRT54G I had bought for a client but it didn't seem to have a bridging function. Where can I...

What is the best wy to network?

Most of that is completely irrelevant to a discussion on networking. Here is what you should have said: Now as for your best networking options, since you don't mind running cable 100 Ethernet is obviously the best choice, so I would network all your desktops with that. You could do the same...

    Alternative browsers?

Firefox really doesn't start to shine untill you load it with extensions. It's a pain, but seems to be a common theme among open source software. The best list of "recommended extensions" I've found is here: http://www.cae.wisc.edu/~badri/firefox/ . If someone knows of a better one (not more...

    Alternative browsers?

It's between Opera and Firefox. Opera 7.23 is good, better than Fire* .6 and .7 However, Firefox .8 is looking pretty nice, especially with the tabbrowser extensions. I checked out the current beta version of Opera, 7.50 something or other, and it's a piece of sh!t. So I am trying to...

    Learning Solaris on a budget?

I think you'll learn the most useful skills (overall) with Debian or Gentoo and a DIY server. Toms' most recent article is on this very topic. But if you're set on Sun hardware, it really only makes sense if you are going to run Solaris as well. They're _designed_ to work together. Linux or...
