Seagate 200GB IDE problem

Questions about having 2 hard drives

Why do you want to format your C drive? If you do that, you'll have to install the Operating System again (on whatever partition you want). Formatting a partition affects only the data on that particular partition. Other partitions are not affected.

quieting down rear fan

The case is a Kingwin 424. It comes without a PSU. So I bought a Zalman 400W. The PSU is super quiet. The 3 fans in the case are not quiet, so I replaced them with Panaflos. I agree, undervolting the panaflo doesn't help, because then it moves almost no air at all. I will remove the grill...

quieting down rear fan

I replaced my stock case fan with a very quiet 80mm Panaflo. Now I cannot hear the bearing anymore, but the air coming out still makes nosie. I wouldn't worry too much if the case was under the desk, but it's up high so I can see through the side window. I'm thinking of removing the case grid...

anybody using Zalman 80mm fan ZM-F1?

I'd like to replace the 3 80mm jet engines in my case with quiet ones. Both my PSU and the CPU cooler are Zalman, and they're very quiet. So I'm wondering how this zm-f1 performs at its quiet setting. Is it in the same league with the Panaflo L1a?

timing values 2 vs 4 dimms

Corsair was kind enough to mention the fact that installing 2 XMS kits of 1GB (2x512) reduces the timings from 2,3,3 to 2.5,3,3. I'm wondering if this loss is good compared to other manufacturers. Does anybody know that? Would such a degradation occur with any RAM when going from 2 to 4 dimms...

memory performance

Thanks to all who responded. I will buy 2 x 1 GB kits of Kingston HyperX @ 400DDR. They currently have a promotion to get 1 kit at $206. I also found an article on pcstats.com that explains MHz vs. timings. Indeed the 466DDR RAM would be overkill for me. Way too expensive to get 2GB of it...
