directx 9.0a will not install?

i'm using windows xp, and i tried to install dx9a today but when it's about to install windows give me an erro saying that the software has not passed some "certified test" or something and it won't let me install. any ideas on how to install directx 9?

Need advice on new system

HD problem?

I've had my HD for about 9 months now. it's an 80gb WD 8mb cache and it has never had any problems. recently i've been hearing some grinding noises comming from it. in fact i heard it just 2 days ago. then i cold booted my computer and it seemed to return to normal. just now i've been hearing...

Power cord question.

The power cord on my monitor has broken(it won't conduct electricity). I tried the power cord from my tower and the monitor will work with that one, so does that mean it's interchangable? MY next question is: is it possible to replace that with an old power cord from my 286?

Newb problem in windows xp, need help quick!

You know how whenever you download something, and it pops up a box saying whether to save or open, and there is a box ticked that says "always ask this before download?" Well, i accidentally unticked it before a download and I don't know how to re tick the box because it never pops up anymore...

How many overclock their video card?

i got my gf4 4400 at 300/600(4600 speed). probably could be higher, but i'm fine with it now :)

Whats your favorite software to write websites in?

I use Cutehtml, simple, like notepad, with a preview option and file browser toolbar, that's all i need :)

Help me optimize my PC

what kind of harddrive do you have? when's the last time you reformatted or defragged? can you give me some more info?

Msi gf4 ti4400 owners

using its default cooling, what were the highest clocks you were able to obtain without artifacts? I just pumped it up to 300/600(ti4600) speeds now, and it's flawless, but i was wondering how much higher it could go?

Computer won't start when i set agp to 4x in BIOs?

i don't know how to. this motherboard is pretty new and so am i. if i should, can you tell me how? I downloaded some files from my manufacturer's website but i don't know how to use them

Computer won't start when i set agp to 4x in BIOs?

I have an Abit Kr7a-133R, amd 1900, and an MSI Gf4 ti 4400. I benchmarked ~11000 in 3dmark but i feel i should be getting more. Then i look at my BIOs and it says my agp is at 2x. I tried to set it to 4x, but the computer would not start up, i had to discharge the CMOS. Tried several times...

Counter-Strike ingame voicecomm problem

mobo does not recognize harddrive, help!

my abit kr7a-133R does not recognize my brand new wd 80gb 8mb hd. I just reformatted it with NTFS, installed windows on it, was able to restart fine with it twice. then i turned it off, i just turned it back on now, and it says that it doesn't recognize the hd!. i tried taking devices out...
